Origin/Maker: Attributed to Makuzu Kozan. Unmarked but the raised enamel designs, gold crosshatched patterns, and flambe glaze are hallmarks of Makuzu Kozan. Compare the butterfly and moth designs to this unmarked, similarly insect decorated vase, sold on Yahoo Auctions Japan:

Condition: Item is used in good condition commensurate with age, see photos. Some wear to the enamel butterfly/moth decorations, one white one is missing most of a wing, the small yellow butterfly is missing one wing tip, and one colorful butterfly viewed from the side is missing most of its thorax
Subject: Decorated with 15 raised enamel butterflies and moths on a flambe glazed base. Top of vase is decorated with raised enamel ho-o birds (phoenix). Bottom of vase is decorated with white raised enamel rain dragons.
