Subject: Design of plum flowers (bai) and pine branches (sho) in typical Ko-Kiyomizu blue and blue-green enamels. Plum and pine are two of the Three Friends of Winter (Sho Chiku Bai - Pine, Bamboo, & Plum), three plants admired for their steadfastness, perseverance, and resilience, as all are strong through the winter (and plum is one of the first trees to bloom in spring). The bamboo (chiku) would possibly be represented by the standing incense sticks.
