Condition: Paint on left eye applied imperfectly (see pictures). Glaze on dogs feet does not reach to base.
Subject: Blue and white liondog. An antique porcelain netsuke of a liondog known as FoDog (Buddhistic lion or ShiShi dog), decorated in freehand pencilling of cobalt blue underglaze. The piece was a Chinese manufacture intended for Japanese market in the 18th century. It features a dominating bluish cast on the white paste and the deep and sure cobalt color which are so commonly seen on 18th century blue and whites.
