Age: Early 1900s. Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) or Taisho Period (1912 - 1926)
Origin/Maker: Sumida ware (sometimes called Sumidagawa ware). Two character maker's mark for INOUE RYOSAI on side. Sumida ware was from Asakusa in Tokyo (near the Sumida river), and they later moved to Yokohama in 1924.

Condition: Item is used in fair condition commensurate with age, see photos. Boy is missing a hand. Several repaired cracks at top spout. Some wear to painted designs
Subject: Decorated with raised designs in relief of a Chinese style boy (karako) walking along a cliff to an outcropping with three round things on it (possibly bread). These types of figures are sometimes called cliffwalkers because of the way they appear to be walking on the edge of the vase. Partially unglazed and partially decorated with a blue and green flambe glaze.
