I found this silk-lined woven bamboo and rattan basket-box a couple years ago, and I'm assuming it's Japanese. The shape and cords are reminiscent of Japanese boxes. It measures 9.25" long x 7" wide x 6" tall. I'm assuming, based on the wikipedia article on "Japanese bamboo weaving", that the main technique is "Thousand-Line Construction, or Comb plaiting (sensuji gumi 千筋組, kushime ami 櫛目編み)". The bamboo along the top and sides feels very smooth.
