Collected: Milton DE antique store 30 AUG 2020
Condition: Item is used in good condition commensurate with age, see photos. No cracks or chips. Some light surface wear. original to manufacture
Subject: Small Kutani porcelain vase decorated with two Kappa yokai monsters in a slightly Yoshidaya style, with the moon on the reverse. The male Kappa is carrying a large sake bottle (tokkuri) and a promissory note, two typical accessories of a different Yokai, the Tanuki (did he steal them?). The female Kappa appears to be carrying two flower stalks or reeds, with an eel hanging off the end of one of them (I don't know the context on this one, I assume she was fishing).
The store where I bought this had the amusing name for it on the tag as "fowl play" (I guess they thought they were chickens)
