Origin/Maker: Satsuma ware, Kyoto, Japan. Maker's mark on base.

Collected: Summer 2021
Condition: Item is used in fair condition commensurate with age, see photos. Repaired chip on top rim of vase. Several original to manufacture hairline cracks on base.
Subject: Decorated with raised moriage enamel designs throughout, with designs on two panels of peony (botan) and chrysanthemum (kiku) flowers in a garden and decorations on the other two panels of women (geisha?) and men (samurai?) in gardens underneath red leaf Japanese maple trees (momiji) and cherry blossoms (sakura). The vase was probably intended to be rotated depending on the season, fall (momiji) or spring (sakura). Note that the people have unusually detailed faces. Also of note are the thatch roof garden buildings (a gate or teahouse perhaps) in the background.
