Age: Early 1900s. Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) or Taisho Period (1912 - 1926)
Origin/Maker: Sumida ware (sometimes called Sumidagawa ware). Two character maker's mark for INOUE RYOSAI on side. Sumida ware was from Asakusa in Tokyo (near the Sumida river), and they later moved to Yokohama in 1924.

Condition: Item is used in good condition commensurate with age, see photos. Some wear to painted designs
Subject: Decorated with raised designs in relief of a man with a fishing pole and net or basket, and a boy following him. These types of figures are sometimes called cliffwalkers because of the way they appear to be walking on the edge of the vase. Partially painted and partially decorated with a flambe glaze. The red painted portions have an unusual seigaiha wave pattern.
